In the FFA, there are five degrees of active membership, and three of these are specifically awarded at the chapter level. These are the Discovery Degree, the Chapter Degree, and the Greenhand Degree. Each of these degrees represents a level of achievement and commitment to the FFA organization that is recognized locally by chapters.

The Discovery Degree is typically aimed at middle school students and encourages participation in agriculture-related activities. The Greenhand Degree is awarded to first-year members who have enrolled in agricultural education programs and demonstrated their interest in the organization. The Chapter Degree is the next step, recognizing members who have developed leadership skills and participated in chapter activities.

The other two degrees, the State Degree and the American Degree, are awarded at higher levels, specifically at the state and national levels, respectively. This structure emphasizes local engagement and recognizes students for their accomplishments in their own communities before advancing to higher levels of recognition.
